Kindergarten Teacher’s Assistant

Southfield Christian School is seeking to hire a  Kindergarten Teacher’s Assistant for the 2013-2014 school year.  This position will serve as an assistant to the Kindergarten teacher in delivering innovative classroom instruction and learning-based activities with the end goal of helping students achieve subject matter competency and positive academic and spiritual growth.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Some previous teaching experience in early childhood classroom
  • Age appropriate and enthusiastic teaching style that engages young learners
  • Ability to follow the flow of the day as described by classroom teacher
  • Strong oral, relational and organizational skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and in a team

Education:

  • Early Childhood Degree or Certification (Preferred)
  • High School Diploma (Required)

Required:

  • Personal relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Genuine love and joy for working with young children

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist teacher in developing and fostering a creative, dynamic and sensory rich environment which sparks imagination and helps encourage learning
  • Assist teacher in engaging students through curriculum and activities that reinforce the fun of learning and encourage all students to thrive
  • Assist teacher in communicating with parents regarding logistics of kindergarten program
  • Assist in managing classroom behavior in a loving but firm manner
  • Assist teacher in working with students that struggle with academics or behavior

After School Work Study Aide

Southfield Christian School is seeking to hire an ‘After School Work Study Aide’ . The purpose of this job is to provide supervision for high school students after school in a study table setting.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Conduct a middle school hall sweep to ensure students are in the designated after school care room
  • Conduct a high school all sweep to ensure any students not in a practice or another approved area are in the media center for HS Study Table
  • Hold students accountable for working diligently on assignments for the duration of study table and/or until they are picked up by a parent
  • Provide assistance with homework whenever possible
  • Maintain and promote an atmosphere conducive to diligent study
  • Ability to respond to parental questions concerning study habits
  • Uphold/enforce the SCS Honor Code and Student Code of Conduct

Minimum Qualifications:     

  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Assertive and authoritative- ability to enforce rules in a firm yet compassionate manner

Education:     

  • Bachelor’s degree (Preferred)
  • Some level of higher education (Required)

Experience:    

  • Experience working with high school students (Required)
  • Experience providing academic support and assistance to students (Preferred)

Required:

  • Personal Relationship with Christ
  • CPR Certified
  • Criminal background check

 

Work Schedule:

10 Month part – time position

Vacation follows school calendar

3:30 to 6:00 pm Monday through Friday

PE Aide and Transportation Coordinator

Southfield Christian School is seeking a PE Aide and Transportation Coordinator for the 2013/2014 school year.The purpose of this position is to coordinate transportation for all school trips K-12 and assist with MS/HS Physical Education classes.

Transportation Coordinator:

  1. Schedule and coordinate buses and drivers for school events per the transportation needs of the Elementary, Middle and High School.
  2. Maintain a current list of all drivers, including contact and certification information for each driver.
  3. Ensure all new hire paperwork is accurately completed and on file before bus driver begins.
  4. Coordinate, secure and confirm all rental and charter vehicles used for school activities.  Assist school personnel with resolving reservation needs and conflicts.
  5. Maintain records of driver checklists and bus maintenance schedules.
  6. Communicate with the Bus Fleet Supervisor to ensure buses are ready and available to use when scheduled.
  7. Communicate with the Bus Fleet Supervisor to coordinate scheduled maintenance of the buses.
  8. Maintain records of driver hours and hourly rates of pay.
  9. Ensure accurate bus driver compensation reports are submitted to payroll in a timely fashion.
  10. Help trouble shoot and resolve any transportation issues that arise.

PE Aide:

  1. Supervise and maintain the girl’s locker room.
  2. Assist with all phases of the physical education classes.
  3. Assist with distribution and collection of physical education uniforms.

 

Minimum Qualifications:     

Education:

  • High School Diploma (Required)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in PE or Education (Preferred)

Experience:

  • 2-3 years previous experience working in school environment (Preferred)

Required:

  • Personal relationship with Jesus
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Computer skills and literacy (Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite)

 

 Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to move and lift PE Equipment (up to 25 pounds)
  • Ability to remain physically active (participate in physical education class activities with students) over the course of an 8 hour day.

  • Maintain a substitute list and call substitutes for the High School
  • Run routine reports for determining athletic eligibility

 Student Responsibilities:

  • Maintain all student cumulative records
  • Assign detentions as directed by principal and dean of students
  • Maintain all attendance records for students

Event and Facility Responsibilities:

  • Maintain locker database and coordinate whole process

Part Time Bus Driver

Position:

Bus Driver

Reports to:

Bus Fleet Supervisor

Primary Responsibility:

Transportation of students for field trips, athletics and other School-approved
events. This position is a part-time, on call position.

Education/Certification Requirements:

High school graduate. All School bus drivers must be licensed by the State of Michigan in accordance with current standards and requirements. The School will provide the resources for the appropriate training as well  as the financial assistance to existing SCS staff members who undergo the training process.

In order to apply, a driver must meet the following minimum criteria:

1. 21 years of age or older.
2. Valid driver’s license for at least three years.
3. No more than 4 points on driving record.

Physical Requirements:

Position requires the ability to drive any of the SCS buses, perform routine bus
maintenance tasks, and lift and move bus supplies (not exceeding 30 pounds).

Specific Responsibilities:

• Must obtain/possess a valid CDL license and remain up to date with training and certification
courses required by the State and County.
• Conduct a pre-trip inspection every time the bus is driven.
• The driver is responsible for the safe operation of the bus.
• Communicate with the Bus Fleet Supervisor regarding all matters concerning training and
certification, drive-time situations and emergencies, and any maintenance/service needs
observed.
• Drivers are given assignments by the SCS Transportation Coordinator.

COMPENSATION: $10.00 PER HOUR, $40.00 MINIMUM
