This week in chapel we shared the well-known story of the Magi coming 500 miles to worship the King who was born in Bethelem. It says in Matthew 2:11 that the Magi "bowed down and worshipped Him" and they "opened their treasures and presented him with gifts."
To illustrate how we can worship Jesus like the Magi, all the students practiced bowing down on their knees before the king. Student actors then presented gifts of frankincense, gold, and myhrr to the newborn King. The main idea of the chapel was to re-focus the children (and adults) that Christmas is not just about giving gifts to others, or even about the importance of family gatherings (as important as these things are), but that the first Christmas involved giving gifts TO JESUS and WORSHIPPING HIM.
I challenged the children to give Jesus the most precious possession they own...their hearts. I also challenged them to spend time literally on their knees over the Christmas holidays worshipping our King, the lowly One, who was born in a manger 2000 years ago.
I hope this Christmas finds your family drawing closer to the King who was born in Bethlehem, worshipping Him, and presenting Him with your most valuable possessions.
