Fort Slushi
Even though we aren't supposed to, we do with great
anticipation. We buy a bottle of root beer, gatorade, or coke. When I say
“we” I mean my sister, Brooke and cousin Tyler. We aren't allowed to take
food or drinks out on the ski slopes, so we hide them. Tyler, Brooke, and
I put the drinks in our snow pants legs. Sometimes Brooke and I hide candy
which we freeze in the snow when we arrive there.
One might ask ”When do you go to your fort?” Well,
when we get tired of skiing, but don't want to call it “quits” for the
day yet. At this point our first step is the River Cabin. There we pick
up our beverages and other supplies. We hide them while walking out to
the slopes. It's always a challenge to find your skis. Eventually we find
them, pop them on, and ski over to the chair lift. Now it gets tricky.
To get past the chair lift helpers, you have to ask them to slow the chair
lift down. Usually, Tyler says it's for me because I can appear younger
in a snow outfit. But he asks them to slow it down to make sure our pops
don't fall out of our pants. At the top, we ski down a hill that gets us
to the next chair lift. Down that hill, we get into the woods about half
way down. After a hike up a small hill, we are finally there! We normally
go right to pouring our drinks in the snow and eating. They taste so good
after a long day of skiing! Then we bury our drinks, or at least half of
them. We mark them with a stick stuck upright in the ground. Sometimes
the sticks fall down and with all the other sticks around, we don't recover
them again. I would like to see how many drinks are there in the Summer! |
