Fifth grade marks the end of elementary school for our students! This milestone brings many exciting privileges and leadership opportunities. Fifth graders can choose from activities like yearbook, safety patrol, volleyball, basketball, Destination Imagination, and more. As the oldest students in the building, 5th graders are also challenged to deepen their relationships with God in order to set a Godly example for the younger grades. By studying Old Testament stories and characters, we will work on making wise choices and forgiving one another. After all, we are all God's work in progress!
We will be memorizing three major passages from the Bible this year. Fill-in-the-blank verse tests are every Tuesday. Tests are cumulative, so students should review the previous verses from the passage in addition to the new verse for the week.
Reading instruction will strengthen comprehension skills, broaden vocabulary, and increase understanding of the literary elements by using short stories and literature circles. In our Writing Workshop, we will study the parts of speech and writing conventions while learning to construct strong personal narratives, presidential research reports, and literary essays. Spelling tests are every Wednesday and vocabulary quizzes are most Fridays. We also will be using the Accelerated Reading Program this year. Here is the link to the online list of AR Book titles:

Students record all assignments in their assignment books on a daily basis. Please check your child's assignment book nightly to ensure that homework is complete and in his/her homework folder.
A successful year would not be possible without prayer. Please keep our class in your daily prayers. Also, please pray that I will have God's wisdom and direction in orchestrating such an exciting year for your child!
