Welcome to an unfrogettable year! We aretoadily into fun and learning.
The first semester this year we will learn about our solar system, weather and plants . A hands-on approach is balanced with factual information.
In social studies (second semester), we will utilize the text, Our Country's Regions, as well as maps, games, charts, other books, and computer programs as we study the different regions of the United States. Our learning process is based on the ability to read, research, and gather information on various topics. Grades are based on daily work, activities, projects, and tests.
Our Writers' Workshop is a new approach to writing. We will spend 20-30 minutes three to four times a week gathering story ideas and in writing narratives. Students will start many stories and choose for themselves which are worthy of final editing and publishing. An entire bulletin board is devoted to these publications, so, drop in periodically to see the progression in your student's writing style and ability.
We will study the life of Christ in Bible this year. The title of our workbook is Building Life Castles .Our goal is to become WISE GUYS, like the man who built his house on the rock in Christ's parable. We not only want to LISTEN to Jesus' words but also to PRACTICE them. Together we discuss what that looks like at school, at home, and in our neighborhoods. Pray for us that we may become WISE GUYS this year.
Grammar and Spelling will also be a part of our curriculm. We team teach in fourth grade so Miss Bourque will teach all the Reading and Math each day.
Fourth grade is a huge LEAP in content, skills, and responsibility. To encourage the students to be organized and responsible we have given each of them a F.R.O.G. binder (Fourth-graders; Responsible, Organized & Growing). A series of colored folders inside will help them sort out their assignments, notes from the office, resource sheets and completed work. For a successful and productive year it is important to set aside time each night to allow your student to study. You build for the future by now developing a good work habit. Encourage their growth by asking to see their F.R.O.G. binder each night, helping them study for unit tests, & planning ahead for projects.

The children may select one of two fun projects: (1) a photo journal of plants - you take actual photographs of plants outside, and then create a booklet. A list of what pictures to take was sent home with the students. Please label each page or picture in the journal. ...read more
