Graphic Design of the last several decades has broken with the tradition of clear ideas cleanly communicated. Think of advertisements from giants such as Nike and Sega. While the classic themes still get attention much of graphic advertising is appealing to a niche group who alone understand the message being sold. We will consider the visual language of contemporary advertising, its methods and execution. Working primarily with vector-based, Illustrator type software our projects will grow both technically and conceptually as we explore the landscape of modern advertising. The applications for these skills will serve purposes much greater than simply training for a career in design.
