This has been a busy month in Kindergarten. We are hard at work on practicing lines, motions, and songs for our Thanksgiving play, which will be performed in the Chapel on Tuesday, November 25, 2008. We are also working on Pilgrim costumes for the play and Indian costumes which the children will have the choice of wearing at our Thanksgiving feast.

Ninth and Tenth Weeks of School

Last week the children enjoyed Pumpkin Day. Several parents came in for the morning and helped with activity centers which included making a pumpkin book, playing Pumpkin word Bingo, and working with orange pumpkin pie scented play-doh. After the table activities, the students went outside to the playground to hunt for pumpkins which had been hidden, each finding the one with his/her name.

Seventh and Eighth Weeks of School

Last week was a "spirited" week, with hat day, sports day, and blue and gold day. We incorporated the special days into our math curriculum by graphing, tallying, and making a Venn diagram of the outfits we wore for spirit day. The Kindergartners demonstrated school spirit by bringing in lots of paper for recycling. Thanks for helping with this.

Sixth Week of School

Last week we enjoyed a great trip to the apple orchard. Many parents and some grandparents went with us. God blessed us with a beautiful, warm day to enjoy the wagon ride, apple picking, haystack climbing, tricycle riding, and doughnut eating. At school the next day, the children helped make applesauce which was eaten for snack. We saved the seeds from each child's apples and graphed them.

Fifth Week of School

Wow, it's Fall already and we are taking our first field trip tomorrow to Erwin Orchards. I will take pictures while we are at the orchard and will try to post them on this site. On Wednesday, we will make applesauce at school which we will probably eat in the afternoon, after it cools. We will also write a group story about our trip and use our experience in the children's personal writing.

During last week, we had our 10th day of Kindergarten. We had a visit by our special puppet, Zero the Hero. Ask your child why zero is important. Because the children did such a good job all week, we had popsicles as a special treat on Friday afternoon!

Third week of school

The students are doing a good job with classroom routines and organization. They are working together nicely in groups during Centers activities. We are working on building community and helping each other make right choices. We have now experienced all of the 1st semester special classes and are learning to adjust to different teachers and teaching styles.
