  • What makes Southfield Christian School unique?

    The most important aspect of our school and its programs is that everything that we do is centered around biblical principles and a Christian worldview.  We seek to train students to fulfill their God-given calling in a way that will impact others for Christ. Southfield Christian School is committed to helping students thrive academically, athletically, socially, and spiritually.
  • What are the school hours?

    The school day is from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.  The building opens at 7:30 a.m. and the classrooms open at 7:50 a.m.  
  • What grades are offered?

    4-year-old prekindergarten through Grade 12
  • Is SCS accredited?

    Yes.  Southfield Christian School is accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Central states (ISACS) and AdvancED (NCA CASI – North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement).  Southfield Christian School is also a member of the Association of Christian School International (ACSI).
  • What are the class size limits?

    We have two sections per grade. Our average class size is 20 students.  Class size maximums vary by grade level.  
  • What textbooks and curriculum do you use?

    Our school uses a variety of textbook publishers.  Scriptural principles and a biblical worldview are integrated throughout the curriculum and students are taught to examine and critically respond to worldviews that conflict with scripture.  Curriculum objectives include the Common Core Standards, the Michigan Grade Level Content Expectations and customized curricular standards. Every student in the high school has an iPad. Excellence in education requires that technology be seamlessly integrated throughout the academic program.
  • Do your students wear uniforms?

    Our students are required to wear the Dennis Uniform.  Students have a choice of any top or bottom clothing item available in the Southfield Christian School Dennis Uniform Booklet.  Each day students have a choice as to which color, style, or type of clothing item they wear as long as it is one of the items listed in the booklet.
  • Do you have a hot lunch program?

    Hot lunch is prepared daily by a Chef on staff.
  • Do you offer after care?

    Yes, we do have an after school care program that operates from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. for Kindergarten through grade 12. The cost is $4 per hour. (There is no aftercare available for prekindergarten.)
  • Do you provide bus transportation?

    Students living in Southfield or Lathrup Village are eligible for bus transportation.  Parents must request bus service directly through the Southfield Public School transportation department.
  • Do you offer foreign language?

    We currently offer Spanish in kindergarten through grade 5.  In grades 6 through 12, we offer French and Spanish.
  • What special academic and fine arts opportunities are offered to students?

    Our students participate in a number of festivals and competitions that challenge them to use their God-given talents and gifts.  These include the Math Pentathlon Tournaments and Spelling Bee competitions as well as the Art and Creative Writing Festivals.  Creative and academic challenges are provided through Robotics, Science Olympiad, and Mock Trial.  Students enter the Southfield Library Battle of the Books and Middle School Challenge each year.  Theater, Vocal and Instrumental music is available for students in varying grades. These students participate in Band and Choir Festivals.
  • What extracurricular sports programs are offered?

    Our school offers a wide-range of sports and extracurricular activities for our students at all grade levels.  In elementary they include flag football, basketball, volleyball, soccer, unicycle, jump-rope/tumbling, gymnastics, cheer, and TGA golf. In middle school we offer cross country, soccer, volleyball, basketball, cheerleading, softball, baseball, and track and field. We offer 15 varsity sports for high school including football, volleyball , competitive cheerleading , sideline cheerleading, cross country, basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, golf, track and field.
  • Do you participate in any Standardized Testing Programs?

    We administer the MAP (Measures of Academic Progress), a nationally-normed standardized assessment created by the Northwest Evaluation Association (nwea.org) to all students in 1st and 2nd grades.  Our 3rd through 10th graders are administered the ACT Aspire, a standards-based system of assessments to monitor progress toward college and career readiness.  All 11th grade students take the PSAT/NMSQT, a standardized test administered by the College Board and cosponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation early in the fall.  Students are recommended to take a college entrance exam, such as the ACT or SAT, in their junior or senior year.

    Southfield Christian School is a ministry of the Highland Park Baptist Church of Southfield, Michigan with over 140 churches represented in our student body.
